Wireless routers are wonderful aren't they? Connecting all your computers and allowing them to share your broadband, I use one myself.
The really wonderful thing is that you can get them out of the box, plug them in and you're away, isn't it?.......
Well no actually! If you use a wireless router 'straight out of the box' it's default mode is totally insecure allowing anyone with a wireless equipped computer to access your computers and use your broadband connection for goodness knows what! And as a wireless network has a range of about 100 meters they could be next door, in a car parked on the street or anywhere within a 100 meter radius. Wireless is no respector of property boundaries!
Bear in mind that, whatever they are doing is being logged against your internet address, and under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act the Police can demand the logs from your Internet Service provider, do you want to be accused of their actions?
IDA Associates can set you up with a secure wireless network that will keep the undesirables out! Contact us for details.
If you register on this site, you will be able to access a free guide to secure wireless networking. |
